This month’s Recipe Redux challenge was to start smoking in the New Year! Not cigarettes, but smoky flavors in our recipes. So to spice up a classic cold-weather drink, I whisked in the hottest sauce I can actually enjoy: Sriracha.
What better way to warm up on a cold winter night than with a mug of homemade hot chocolate? Spicy chili sauce kicks it up a notch to something the whole family can enjoy. Don’t let the heat scare you away. A little bit will do the trick and give you just the zing you need 🙂
Sriracha Hot Chocolate, adapted from Chow
Serves 2, easily doubled
2 C soy or nondairy milk
1 tsp Sriracha hot sauce
7-8 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tsp maple syrup or honey
Simmer the milk and Sriracha in a saucepan over medium high heat, whisking constantly for 2 minutes.
Whisk in the chocolate and maple syrup/honey. Stir until completely incorporated. Taste and add sweetener as needed.
Serve hot in two mugs and enjoy!
Sweet and spicy- does it get any better? Yum.
I love the sweet + spicy combination! Definitely gonna have to try this out! 😀
Thanks! Let me know how you like it!
I loooove spicy with chocolate! Why did I never think of using it in hot chocolate before??? Well done!
Random yet related: World Market has a chipotle dark chocolate. Melt that and drizzle over strawberries. SO good!
If you saw the path my brain went on to end up at Sriracha hot chocolate, you’d laugh 🙂 and yummmmm that sounds delicious! I’ll have to find some!
LOL! I understand…sometimes the path in my brain for how I end up somewhere is pretty convoluted too. But who cares as long as it’s delicious!
Right on!
