Spiced Stove Top Scents

12 Nov

The stove top can be put to use for more than just cooking and food. Rather than filling your home with expensive chemicals from sprays, plug-ins or candles, throw a few things into a pot and let it simmer throughout the day (provided someone’s home at all times). If you’re not busy cooking, or if you’re prepping your home for visitors, this is the perfect way to make your home smell warm, comforting and inviting. Stir every so often, add water when needed, and you’ve got yourself the perfect air freshener!

  • water
  • orange
  • apple
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
  • cloves
  • allspice
  • lemon juice

Fill a small pot 3/4 with water.

Rough chop the apple and orange – ideally, use fruit that is going bad. Or, use fruit peels instead! Add to the water.

Using either whole or ground versions of the spices, add those to the water along with a splash of lemon juice.

Bring to a boil, and reduce heat to simmer constantly. Every hour, stir the mixture and add more water – it will continue to cook off, so just keep adding more!

If you have fresh cranberries, toss in a handful of those as well. Let the scent fill your home and let your noises enjoy it!
