Plumberry Oatmeal

9 Sep

We know that Schnozzberries taste like Schnozzberries, but what does a Plumberry taste like? Plum + strawberries, of course! (If you don’t know what a Schnozzberry is, drop what you’re doing, grab some candy, and watch the Gene Wilder version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.)

Plums and strawberries combine together to create a lovely flavor, perfect for your morning oatmeal! Give this a shot. And if you still have a plum leftover, make yourself a microwave plum cake later on.

Plumberry Oatmeal

Serves 1

  • 1/2 C old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 3/4 – 1 C skim or non-dairy milk
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed meal or chia seeds
  • 1 plum, diced
  • 4 large strawberries – dice three, and slice one
  • 1 tbsp good quality maple syrup, honey, or equivalent in stevia

Bring 1 C milk to a boil (or use water if you prefer). Stir in oats, cinnamon and flaxseed. Reduce heat to medium and cook for five minutes, uncovered.

Halfway through, stir in diced plum, 3 diced strawberries, and the sweetener. Finish cooking to your desired consistency.

Spoon into a bowl, top with the sliced strawberry, and enjoy!

In a bowl with a lid, combine dry ingredients and stir. Pour in 3/4 C milk, sweetener, and the fruit.

Stir well, cover, and let sit in fridge overnight or at least 4 hours before eating. Enjoy!

Doctor Who and plumberries make EVERYTHING better. Thanks for the recipe! I’ll have to try it this fall once the weather starts to get cooler.
