Dark Chocolate Cherry Oatmeal

20 Aug

More dessert for breakfast! I love making my oatmeal taste like sinful dessert. You can’t go wrong with chocolate and cherries in the morning, and here’s a healthy way of doing it.

Dark Chocolate Cherry Oatmeal

Weekends are great for making stovetop oatmeal, sipping hot coffee, and lounging around 🙂

Dark Chocolate Cherry Oatmeal

Serves 1

  • 1/2 C old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 3/4 C to 1 C skim or non-dairy milk
  • 1 overripe banana, sliced thin
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp flaxseed meal, chia seeds or wheat germ (optional)
  • 6 dark cherries, split in half, pits removed
  • 1 tbsp dark chocolate chips

Stovetop version:

Combine oats, 1 C milk, banana, cinnamon, cocoa powder and flaxseed meal in a small pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and cook for about five minutes, stirring constantly.

Add cherries in the last minute, stir. Break up the banana slices – this acts as a natural sweetener!

When oatmeal is to your consistency, transfer to your bowl. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and any extra cherries you want. Eat!

Overnight version:

Combine all ingredients (only 3/4C milk) in a bowl with a lid. Stir well, cover, and set in fridge overnight, or at least 4 hours before you want to eat it. Microwave for 90-120 seconds in the morning, and enjoy!
