May Foodie Pen Pals

31 May

May has been a jam-packed and fun-filled month for me, made even better with May’s edition of Foodie Pen Pals!

When Lindsay of the LeanGreenBean blog emailed out this month’s spreadsheet of who is sending to whom, I nearly squealed upon seeing my pen pal….she lives in my town! And what do foodies do when they are brought together? Eat, of course! So in addition to sending Sarah of Food, Fun and Life in Waukesha her foodie goodies, we also met up at a restaurant for a tasty and healthy Mexican dinner!

I introduced Sarah to a local, hipster-vibe Mexican restaurant that uses only the best and most local ingredients. Cafe Corazon’s menu caters to all tastes, diets and food restrictions – from meaty and hearty all the way to vegan and flavorful. Which is why I love bringing friends and family there, because everyone is happy! And their drinks…oh, their drinks are fabulous. Sarah and I chatted about all things food, local restaurants, and ourselves over her shrimp tacos, my tofu fajitas, and a tequila drink called the “El Diablo.” With much in common outside of our love for food, this turned out to be a fantastic foodie pen pals meet-up. What a small world this is that two people in the same town would be paired up in a nationwide foodie project!

If you’re interested in exchanging foodie items with others around the world, and receiving tasty treats yourself, sign up for the June Foodie Pen Pals! Here are some details:

  • Sign up on the LeanGreenBean by clicking the above link, or the badge on the side of my page, before June 4.
  • On June 5, you will receive your pen pal pairing via email. You must then contact your pen pal to get their mailing address and any dietary preferences and restrictions.
  • You will have until June 15 to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your pen pal!
  • The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
  • You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
  • Foodie Pen Pals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your pen pal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
  • Foodie Pen pals is open to US, Canadian & European residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. Same with Europeans. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.

I was unfortunate in missing the connection with the pen pal sending me goodies, so I can’t post about that this month. HOWEVER, it was still absolutely wonderful to MEET a fellow foodie, blogger and pen pal! I highly recommend that you join in next month…who knows, maybe YOU can make a new foodie friend! Here’s Sarah’s post if you want to read more about our dinner out.
