Fangirling and book signing!

3 Nov

SO I’m still super hyped by tonight’s activities! I went with a couple friends to a book signing at Alverno College. What book, you ask? It’s called Hollow Earth and it’s written by Carole E. Barrowman and her younger brother John Barrowman. Yes, JOHN BARROWMAN. Captain Jack Harkness, folks!

Time to read!

John’s showing us that he wore TWO shirts, just in case he accidentally matched with his sister 🙂

The sibling pair have written a few other books, comics and who knows what before. But this time, I got to meet them! The book is a middle grade / young adult novel, with elements of magic, powers, evil, and a huge dose of creativity (so they tell me – still have to read it yet!). It’s the first in a series of three novels, so stay tuned for the second installment next year.

Interview-style talk. Bad lighting, but whatever.

Let me tell you, this duo is HILARIOUS. Their chemistry is amazing, and while they ARE siblings (a relationship which often leads to bickering, arguing, and even fighting), these two are so amazing together. For the 90 minutes they talked, about their book, about Doctor Who, and about their lives in general, they had the audience just cracking up! John even sang a little for us AND did his impressions of Eccleston, Tennant and Smith! TOO FREAKIN’ FUNNY! After the talk, they did the traditional book signing. For more than 350 people. While my friends and I had gotten there early enough to get signed and leave within a short amount of time, we decided to try to wait it out, and hope for the opportunity for pictures WITH the authors, rather than just being forced to take pictures OF them. And our plan worked! There were about 20 people left in the auditorium, and the Barrowmans broke down, and agreed to individual pictures with us.

At the signing table.

We got our books signed, and they were both SUPER nice. Carole was a sweetie (and English professor at the college). In a moment of fangirl-ness, I got flustered when John said my name. And then he looked into my eyes. Dear god…he has the bluest, dreamiest eyes ever (don’t tell my boyfriend!). Oh, I’m a happy fan girl 🙂

After the last of us got our books signed, we lined up for pictures. AND JOHN BARROWMAN PUT HIS ARM AROUND ME.

Oh, it was wonderful! His partner, Scott, took our picture, with his adorable British accent. Even John and Carole’s parents, who live in Milwaukee, were there, and we exchanged a few words with them – so great to see supportive parents!

I went to the signing as a Whovian, with hopes of meeting John. I came out of the signing with an amazing book I look forward to reading, great memories of the two Barrowmans making us laugh to tears, and HAVING MET JOHN BARROWMAN. Insert fangirl flail here 🙂

I’m going to bed a very happy girl, with a good book to read!

I am so jealous! Over here in New Zealand, I would kill to meet any of the cast of Doctor Who (previous or current), and John Barrowman seems like such a genuine and funny guy. You should definitely blog your thoughts on the book!

He was incredible! So much awesome. When I’m done with it, I’ll blog about the book 🙂 Good idea!
